Head Coach
Mike Nemecek has been fencing for 22 years. He has been the Head Coach of WMFA since 2002. Coach Nemecek has served as one of the US Womens national foil coaches and has been coaching internationally since 2002. He brought home the Gold for the US in Bratislava at a Junior World Cup in 2005. He produced the only fencer in West Michigan to ever represent the United States at four World Championship events. The number of nationally rated fencers, youth and adult, at WMFA have tripled under his care and coaching.
Mike's holistic approach always considers the best ways to coach each individual, the entire person, rather than choosing a cookie cutter formula for all students. Mike gets results because the student feels that there is genuine interest and a vision for their own personal achievement in the art and sport of fencing, whether they choose to compete recreationally, at a national or international level.
Nemecek's students are receiving anywhere from partial to full ride college scholarships in fencing and are being praised for their excellence of character on and off the fencing strip.
In addition to fencing, Mike has played semi-pro football and has coached football and softball.
