Fencing is a safe and exciting Olympic sport for all ages and abilities. Whether you fence for recreation or competition, fencing can be challenging both mentally and physically. All our classes are taught at our downtown Grand Rapids location. WMFA is home to both World Championship Team members and fencing enthusiasts alike.
This class is for children 5-7 years old. They will be taught basic footwork and fencing concepts through games and repetition. Plastic swords and masks will be supplied in this class. There will be only 8 students per class. Back
These classes will teach you both basic footwork, blade work and rules of Foil Fencing. They run for one hour, once a week, for 6 weeks. Each session will build upon the previous sessions. We provide the equipment. Students are invited to come practice during open fencing hours at no additional fee.
- All youth classes will be taught in six week sessions.
- There are four or five sessions during the course of a year.
- Session I and II are required by all novice youth students.
- Session III and IV will follow.
- At any point after Session II, Coach Nemecek may decide that your child is ready to move up in an Intermediate class.
- All students will move up to an Intermediate level after Session V.
- All of the equipment is provided for Sessions I – V.
INTERMEDIATE YOUTH and ADULT CLASSES
All Intermediate classes will require electric equipment.
This will require a purchase of a Lame, body cord and electric weapon. We will still provide the coat, mask plastron and glove at no extra cost.
An additional body cord, electric weapon and knickers will need to be purchased within the following year for tournaments.
This class will be run for two hours, once a week starting in September.
This class will run from Sept. through June. There are discounts for multiple family members. Back

We will run a fencing league several times a year for eight weeks. This is a fun opportunity to fence for trophies during Open Fencing Hours!Back

FENCING FOR PARENTS / RULES OF ENGAGEMENT
This class will combine information and basic fencing skills for parents. You will be taught how to watch a fencing competition and the basic rules of foil fencing. You will learn about the various types of equipment used and what are the advantages of one kind over another. You will learn about tournaments and their importance in your child’s fencing growth and college scholarship opportunities. You will also have the opportunity to experience bouting for yourselves. You will also receive a parent’s handbook and tournament schedule for the season. Back
